Rightly Punished

This phase is dissonant. Punishment evokes emotion, judgment and motivation. Best avoided and so kept for the squeemish as an aside. But preserved it is, for as with humour, bad jokes, and other related Fields of Darkness - it is a sign of weight, of something important. Lurking. Something dissruptive.

This koan both praises the correctness of social norms - the wisdom that derives its value from the test of time - and the problems and arbitrary cruelty of group think.

It also allows us to introduce economics (or the science of the home). Economics rightly conceived is the science of social incentives of which money is one such example. The focus here is on the word incentive.
